Jewish Community Refugee Initiative

The Jewish Community Refugee Initiative (JCRI) is an initiative to engage the Charlotte Jewish community in learning about, interacting with, and assisting the needs of the refugees resettled in Charlotte.

Over 700 refugees are resettled in Charlotte every year, predominately from Bhutan, Burma, Iraq, Democratic Republic of Congo, and now Syria. These men, women and children have come to Charlotte to escape violence and persecution in their home countries. While these refugees are not Jewish, it has always been a tenet of Jewish principles to help all in need. By working with established local agencies like CRRA (Carolina Refugee Resettlement Agency) and RSS (Refugee Support Services), you and your family can learn about these refugees and help them begin their lives in our community.
