HFES Welcomes Back Volunteers
The HFES staff leaders are excited to welcome back volunteers to their school! There are many programs where they currently need our support.
The current needs for the school volunteers include :
- Heart Math Tutoring (“Heart” or “HMT”) gives young students successful experiences in math through one-on-one, volunteer-delivered tutoring during the school day. HMT’s mission is to ensure that all elementary students develop the strong foundation in math and enthusiasm for academics needed for long-term success, by helping schools use volunteers as tutors.
Volunteers are needed for HEART math tutoring at HFES! Tutoring option times are 8:35-9:35 and from 11:05-12:05 on Tuesdays-Fridays. Volunteers choose an hour time slot/week and work with students through a research-based curriculum. Volunteers work with the same two students each week to truly build a relationship and make a difference in a student's day! There is also an on-site coordinator on at HFES and supports volunteers each week! To learn more about HEART, and sign up to be a volunteer please contact Linda Levy levyollie@aol.com - Some TI volunteers worked with specific teachers in the past (2019). If you would like to return in this capacity please email kylene.westerholm@cms.k12.nc.us and let her know which teacher you worked with in the past and she can support you in getting set back up with them!
- There is an ongoing need through the school year for backpacks with school supplies, Food Lion gift cards at Thanksgiving, gifts for students in needy families at the holiday season, and teacher appreciation notes and gift cards.
