7:00 PM - 8:30 PMhttps://zoom.us/j/97549448398The Last Watchman of Old Cairo: A Novel, by Michael David Lukas, is the story of two widowed scholarly Christian sisters from Scotland, who brought the geniza documents to the attention of Dr. Solomon Schechter. As one reviewer commented, "Weaving together characters from medieval Cairo, Victorian Britain, and contemporary Berkeley, Lukas has crafted a rich, highly readable story. His themes - the ties between generations, between the West and Egypt, and between Muslims and Jews are bittersweet and timely."
