For the Cake:
1 cup lukewarm milk or water
1 scant tbs active dry yeast
4 cups flour
1 cup butter at room temperature
2/3 cup sugar
1 ½ tsp salt
5 eggs
1 ½ tsp vanilla extract
1 ½ cups cake or regular flour
For the Filling and Egg Wash:
¼ cup butter
¾ cup apricot jam
1 cup leftover cake crumbs
¾ cup chopped almonds (optional)
9 oz bittersweet chocolate
1 egg
1 tbs water
For the Streusel:
3 tbs sugar
6 tbs flour
3 tbs butter
