Upcoming Programs
The purpose of the youth programs at Temple Israel is to interlink the home, school, community, and congregation. Our youth activities offer a unique opportunity to stimulate educational, spiritual growth, and social development within a Judaic environment. The programming is designed to offer the individual the chance to promote self-identity within an ever-changing world and to express oneself in a fun and safe atmosphere. The purpose of the total educational program, formal and informal, builds a foundation for young Jews to strengthen their affiliation and identification.

Due to the generous support of the Stuart Ostrow Youth Fund, Youth Group Membership is FREE for all 3rd-5th grade students registered in the Temple Israel Religious School. For all other students, either not enrolled in TIRS or in 8th-12th grades, there is ONLY a $36 annual fee per student. Future youth events may include additional fees.

Our Youth Groups
Mahar (3rd - 5th graders)
MAHAR is our youth group for 3rd, 4th, & 5th graders! Come check out our movie nights, bowling, corn maze, Chocolate Seder and so much more! We have at least one FUN event every other month!
Kadima (6th - 8th graders)
KADIMA is our youth group for 6th-8th graders. The group’s activities range from regional conventions, local social programs, and Judaic programs. We work hard to ensure that our middle school students have a strong connection not only to each other but also to the wider Jewish world.
Ir Ha-Malka USY (9th - 12th graders)
IR HA-MALKA USY is our youth group for teens in 9th-12th grades. The Ir Ha-Malka USY Executive Board organizes and implements local programs. From regional conventions and Shabbatons, to awesome overnights and social action projects, USY offers teens the best way to become involved, make life-long friendships, and set the course for their own Jewish journey.
College Outreach Program
At Temple Israel, Jewish connections do not end when you go off to college. The College Outreach program, helps students stay in touch with Temple Israel and with the Jewish community once they are out on their own. The program provides college students with four care packages to each student during the school year for Rosh Hashanah, Hanukah, Purim, and an end-of-year finals boost.

Meet Our Youth Director
Alan Johnathan is our Director of Youth and Family Engagement. Alan is passionate about Judaism and teaching. As a former teacher, Alan has experience in creating exciting and engaging lessons and activities. Additionally, he has worked for the Levine Jewish Community Center through their Camp Mindy and J-Team programs. Alan enjoys helping engage our children to grow into adulthood proud and knowledgeable of their Jewish identity and heritage. Alan welcomes your suggestions or questions about temple youth programs.
