Dec12

During the 1st Town Hall meeting, the Clergy Search Communications Committee passed out notecards to 50+ members in attendance and received 16 responses back.  Feedback from TI members included positive reflections they would want potential Cantor/Rabbi candidates to know, such as:

- There is great opportunity at TI to engage and inspire a very diverse congregation.
- Congregants welcome change and look forward to what our new clergy will bring.

The top 5 items of feedback from members who attended the meeting were:

(16) responses for Cantor:
(6) Desire greater engagement of young people/kids
(4) Have questions about a candidate's personal leadership skills and style
(4) Have questions about engaging such a diverse congregation (balancing elder versus youth needs, differing Hebrew levels, diverse backgrounds, natives vs. newcomers, etc.)
(3) Have questions about personal musical tastes (tunes for teffilot, favorite musical selections, etc.)
(3) Acknowledge the need to balance long-held Temple traditions with a desire for change
(3) Have questions about the role of music/cantor in Jewish ritual

(16) responses for Rabbi:
(7) Have questions about engaging such a diverse congregation (balancing elder versus youth needs, differing Hebrew levels, diverse backgrounds, natives vs. newcomers, etc.)
(7) Desire greater engagement of young people/kids
(4) Have questions about candidate's leadership style/working with other TI leaders
(3) Have questions about personal reasons for wanting job (Why Charlotte? Why TI? Long-term goals?  Passions?)
(3) Desire a strong emphasis on Jewish education and greater involvement at TIRS

We look forward to hearing more at our next Town Hall Meeting!
